ASKING FOR PERMISSION
Meminta Ijin
- We use CAN to ask permission from someone we know well
Example:
Can I speak to John Wilson, please?
Can I borrow your pen for a minute?
- We use MAY as a slightly more formal way to ask for permission
Examples:
May I ask a question, please?
May we go home now?
- COULD – WOULD are used as more polite ways of asking for permission
Examples:
Could I submit the assignment tomorrow morning?
Would you permit me to leave the meeting at half past ten?
- Do you mind …?
Example:
Do you mind if I sit next to you?
